Dysport®

What is Dysport®?

Dysport®, also known by ‘Reloxin,’ is a cosmetic injection used to treat facial wrinkles. Similar to Botox, it contains a diluted version of the botulinum toxin. Dysport® is injected to relax facial muscles, smoothing the wrinkles caused by movement of these muscles. This is a popular treatment for frown lines, laugh lines, and other facial folds.

Dysport® is FDA-approved for improving the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines) but also used for medical purposes, such as treating muscle spasticity and cervical dystonia.

How does it work?

Some facial wrinkles are caused by the muscles under the skin exerting too much tension on the skin, thereby creating creases. When we are younger, our skin is supple and elastic enough to remain smooth and even despite the pull of these muscles. However, as we age and our skin loses its elasticity, the effects of these muscles produce creases and wrinkles.

One injection. Five points.
Dysport® temporarily treats moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity.

Wrinkles are caused by repeated movements and muscle contractions. One injection into each of the 5 points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines.

In other words: natural-looking results that look and feel like you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dysport is a prescription injection administered by a licensed healthcare professional to treat moderate to severe frown lines (those wrinkles between the eyebrows).
Medically, it’s a botulinum neurotoxin (abobotulinumtoxinA), an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent. It temporarily prevents specific muscle movements that cause frown lines.

Administered by a licensed healthcare professional, Dysport is supplied as a single-use, sterile 300-unit vial. The dose of Dysport for the treatment of glabellar lines (frown lines between your eyebrows) is a total of 50 units injected equally among the specific muscles. The dose of Dysport is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dosage of any other botulinum toxin product that you may have previously used.

Although office visits can vary, the procedure generally takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Though results vary, over half of users see improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows within 2-3 days.

One treatment of Dysport provides results that may last for up to 5 months.

Dysport® comes in a single-use, 300-unit vile that’s sterile. We dispose of a needle immediately after it’s used for an individual to avoid spreading any communicable diseases. Our staff members are trained in how to administer each injection safely and in the most comfortable way possible.

The most common side effects are nose and throat irritation, headache, injection site pain, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping, sinus inflammation, and nausea.

Dysport® and Botox are both made from botulinum toxin type A. All botulinum toxins have the same mechanism of action: blocking the release of acetylcholine (ACh) and preventing the muscles from contracting to maintain the aesthetic effect. However, the dose of Dysport is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dosage of any other botulinum toxin product that you may have previously used.
